SwallowsQuest Items Are Not Available At This Time.
For the next year I will be taking leave from painting SwallowsQuest Bird & Trout items. I will be experimenting with other projects in painting and calligraphy, etc.
Thankyou so much for your support. I look forward to being back next year.

This Hummingbird Pin is a happy little gift for a good friend or for your child's teacher at the end of the school year.

  • Each Hummingbird Pin is handpainted in jewel toned and verdant green acrylics & inks on Sycamore. Several layers of crystal clear acrylic are added to diffuse the light.

  • Each Hummingbird Pin is approximately 2" tall by 2"wide.

  • Each Hummingbird Pin has a silverplate pinback with a safety catch to keep it secure.

  • Each Hummingbird Pin will come in a nice, rustic triangular gift box with the Hummingbird Pin nestled in a bed of natural excelsior.

  • Each Hummingbird Pin will come with a decorative write-up about Hummingbirds done in calligraphy, tucked away in a small glassine envelope.
    (See the Hummingbird write-up below.)

  • Each Hummingbird Pin is signed on its finished wood back by the artist.

  • This is the write-up that will come with the Hummingbird Pin:

"Hummingbirds are found only in the 'New World';of the 19 species in North America, only the Ruby-throated lives east of the Mississippi - from Nova Scotia to Florida.

Hummingbirds build tiny lichen covered nests, sometimes using spider web strands in the lining, and lay one or two navy bean-sized eggs once or twice a year. They can fly at 70mph, beating their wings 60 to 80 times a second. To sustain this high energy level, they must eat every 20 minutes, but at night their temperature drops from 100*F to 60*F to conserve energy. Their feathers contain no true pigments; the dazzling colors are the result of refracted light.

'...as she flies she makes a little humming noise like a Humble-bee: wherefore she is known as a Humbird.'"
